THE LIST: Become a better storyteller in 2024
Recommendations to read, watch, look at, listen to and do to become a better storyteller.
Welcome to the future, it's 2024, officially half-a-decade beyond the year Bladerunner was set. Thankfully the world is not yet as polluted as it appeared in that film but the replicants may still be coming for us (well, at least according to the Daily Mail below)!
This is The List, a weekly(ish) email of recommended stuff to read, watch, look at, listen to and do to make you a better storyteller and these are my recommendations for kicking off your year.
Neal.

In November last year we launched the Moore's Lore Book Club with Will Storr's 'The Science of Storytelling', which was discussed at length (and over drinks) on 8th December via Google Meet. This month we're reading 'Life 3.0: Being Human In The Age of Artificial Intelligence' by Max Tegmark and, if you want to join us for the discussion (and the drinks of course) on the last Friday of the month then let us know in the comments below.

Look at this...
Loathed as I am to direct any traffic towards the dreaded Daily Mail they have, as far as I can tell, broken a story about an A.I. influencer who is fooling the world's most eligible (or creepy) bachelors, who are sliding into this replicant's DMs with offers of marriage. It may be 2024 but it seems sex still sells (at least to the 200k followers she/it has amassed in just 4 months).
What does this mean for influencers, ambassadors and endorsers of brands? Not to mention the strides made in diversity and body positivity? Does data really dictate there is just one perfect avatar? Or is this yet another example of data honing in on what’s popular as opposed to what’s interesting, distinctive or valuable? As a marketer or communicator, what is your moral responsibility to representation when you can create any avatar you want?
